Objectives
Our objectives
are to enable learners of a second or third language to express
themselves naturally with ease and confidence, and to communicate
effectively in a wide range of settings. We offer a 'conversational
method' of learning, focusing on improving and exercising
audio-lingual capabilities.
Here are
just a few of the tasks the student will be able to execute:
- Initiate and
sustain formal and informal conversations
- Improve his/her
comprehension of native or non-native speakers of the chosen
language by at least 80% to 100%.
- Engage in telephone
conversations with confidence using appropriate vernacular.
- Correctly use
terms and phrases directly associated with a particular
field or activity.
- Read, write
and assimilate letters, faxes, documents, statistical reports,
newspaper articles, etc.
- Negotiate effectively
with clients and suppliers.
- Understand and
participate in lectures, seminars, meetings, debates, legal
proceedings, etc.
- Prepare and
give presentations and speeches.
Facets
to Learning a Foreign Language
As young children,
we learn our native language by listening and then speaking.
This is also true of the adult learning process. The purpose
of any language is to communicate, first-time learners must
achieve a basic understanding of vocabulary, sentence structure,
grammar, pronunciation and intonation before beginning conversational
practice. Once a comprehensive base has been assimilated,
the ability to recall and to use a new word or sentence structure
improves by 100%, thereby accelerating the total learning
process. It is a proven fact that students become more motivated
and are able to react spontaneously once they have acquired
a level of confidence about their communicative skills.
Methodology
The method known
as 'Communicative' or 'Direct Method' is the proven modern-day
approach to learning, used by the best language schools. It
is a 'hands-on' method based on allowing the learner to be
actively involved in both speaking and listening during the
lesson. After every new structure or vocabulary is presented,
the students are asked to practice in a sequence of controlled-activities
each time relying less on the instructor and more on themselves
so newly-learned syntax may become incorporated into their
working knowledge.
Skills
Improvement and Practice
Within the selected
material presented, students' communicative and comprehensive
skills are perfected to a point that they are able to be effective
and in control in any variety of circumstances. The simulation
of everyday real-life situations ensures that students learn
quickly as they are encouraged to 'think' in the target language
rather than to translate.
The use of visual
images and 'props', as well as interactive role-play, helps
stimulate creativity, and shortens response time making it
an essential part of the learning process.
Depending on the
level and specific needs of the learner, a two-hour lesson
may be divided as follows:
Pronunciation---------------------------------------------15
Minutes
Grammar &
Structure-----------------------------------30 Minutes
Oral Drills-----------------------------------------------------15
Minutes
Controlled Activities----------------------------------
30 Minutes
Open Activity
& Conversation-----------------------30 Minutes
*These guidelines
may be varied or customized to accommodate a student's particular
needs and to determine whether more focus should be placed
on 'listening and speaking', or 'reading and writing'.
You may choose between the following group and individual
programs:
- Group language
instruction provides students with the opportunity to learn
a new language or enhance their verbal and reading skills
in an existing language. In-group classes, students benefit
from the opportunity to converse with other students in
a warm, friendly environment.
- Private language
instruction allows students to rapidly gain fluency through
intensive one-on-one sessions. Students can advance at their
own pace, often learning a language in less than one month!
- Corporate language
training programs provide classes on-site or in our classrooms
for one or more students. Class sessions emphasize industry-specific
business topics and culturally sensitive business communications.
Executive programs enable our clients to acquire both business
and general foreign language skills, even when only a brief
study period is available.
