Have
you ever heard someone tell a joke in a language in which
they didn't have full command? Just hearing them adapt it
from their own language into another, is more entertaining
than the joke itself! Let's face it, literal translations
don't work because each language is tied to the culture of
one or more countries and has characteristics that are intrinsic
to its total comprehension. So it is extremely important that
a translator or interpreter have fluency in both the source
and the target language.
Interpretation
can be considered both a science and an art. The art of interpreting
consists of combining elements of both "literal" and "figurative"
translation to make the spoken word comprehensive to the listener,
while retaining the meaning of the original message.
Would you prefer
your audience be focused on the subject matter or on semantics?
If the information
which you have spent time preparing and presenting is important
to you, isn't it just as important that it be conveyed in
a manner which is clear to the listener?
Sometimes, the
misunderstanding of even small portions of speech can inhibit
its overall meaning. Or worse yet, the listeners can become
so distracted in their attempt to comprehend the speaker,
that they begin to lose interest!
The options
are:
a) Take your
chances and hope for the best or
b) Hire a professional
interpreter
Let America's Translators
help you deliver your message in their language!
Our interpreters
are selected according to their expertise in specific professional
fields, language pair ability, certification, and prior experience.
Types of interpretation:
Conference Interpretation
An interpreter
renders a 'simultaneous' or 'consecutive' speech to a
large audience. Appropriate for international conferences,
educational symposiums, multinational corporate meetings,
etc.
Simultaneous
Interpretation
A verbal translation
of the spoken word that is transmitted simultaneously,
as the original speech is delivered.
Consecutive
Interpretation
A verbal translation
is delivered at intervals with the original speech. The
interpreter takes notes while the speech is given, waits
for a pause, and renders the oral version to participants.
Whispered
Interpretation
An interpreter,
positioned in close proximity to one or two foreign-speaking
participants, whispers an interpretation of the proceedings.
If the participants wish to reply to the rest of the group,
the interpreter renders a consecutive interpretation of
their comments.
Relay
Interpretation
An interpreted
version of a speech relayed from a primary to a secondary
interpreter. This method is used when there is an unusual
language combination between speaker and participants.
Sight
Interpretation
An interpreter
reads a document and interprets its content to the audience.
Used often in legal proceedings, medical and scientific
meetings and on other occasions.

What type
of equipment will be most suitable for your event?
The equipment selected
will be a function of the type of event you are organizing,
the number of attendees, how many languages will be translated
and if recordings of the original speeches and/or the translated
speeches are required. Our advisors are available to help
you select the equipment appropriate for your needs.
The following is
a brief overview of simultaneous interpretation equipment
(SI), which meet IEC standards (this equipment is often used
in conference settings):
For Speakers:
Conference microphones for speakers at the rostrum and speakers
in the room.
For Participants:
Receivers and headsets with language channel switches and
volume control. One or more wireless microphones for designated
members of the audience if a question and answer session
is planned.
For Interpreters:
Microphones and headsets for use with either infrared or
wired FM system. Interpreting booths must be provided, either
mobile or fixed (ISO 2603 and 4048), in order to isolate
the receiving and transmitting of sound, thus cutting out
any background noise or side conversations. A soundproof
booth is an interpreter's workplace, and its conformity
to ISO standards regarding lighting, seating position, ventilation
and clear visibility to the speakers, rostrum, projection
screen and other participants, is crucial to a successful
interpretation.
In today's competitive
business world, America's Translators can help your company
bring its message to a wider audience. At any multilingual
public speaking event, simultaneous interpretation guarantees
greater attendance and participation, effectively removing
language barriers and enhancing your company's international
image. In smaller settings, interpretation guarantees clear,
concise communication of your message and promotes greater
understanding among participants.
